Burgos Cathedral

If there is but one reason to visit Burgos it is to see its cathedral. It is one of the most beautiful examples of Spanish Gothic art and is the only Spanish cathedral to be a World Heritage site. Yes - it is true! When I first discovered that fact, I couldn't believe it either! However, famous cathedrals such as the ones in Segovia, Salamanca, Toledo, Santiago de Compostela, Ávila, Córdoba, Cáceres and Cuenca are part of their respective city's World Heritage status. The magnificent Sevilla Cathedral has not got stand-alone World Heritage status either - only as part of the "La Catedral, el Alcázar y el Archivo General de Indias de Sevilla" group.

Be that as it may, Burgos Cathedral is special. It soars high above the city -its elaborately crafted spires are especially eye-catching.
